love & bicycles

I remember watching a home video of me when I was probably about 5, and it was me getting my first bicycle. It was pink and white and had training wheel on it. This is one of my favorite videos because I feel like it describes my sister and I so perfectly. The video shows the bike on our backyard, then enters my older sister and I, my dad is the one recording and he is saying " Look Sarah, it's your new bike!" Just then my sister starts leaping with excitement, screaming and jumping up and down, exclaiming how excited she is for my new bike. And then there's me, no facial expression, no yelling, no jumping. I simply walk up to the bike, sit on the seat, and start riding. Never once making any motion or sound on how excited I am.

Now, looking back I know in that moment I was beyond excited. Because the truth is I loved that bike. I am just not good at having proper emotions when receiving gifts. It's something I'm working on, because it's important for people to know how much their gift means to you. This past Valentine's Day I got a new bicycle, and let me tell you, my face and squeals and clapping did a pretty good job of explaining how excited I was.

This bike is extra special to me because my sweet sweet boyfriend, Tyler, built it. He spent hours ( and when I say hours I mean hours because this boy spends time researching what he's buying) researching the exact parts he wanted to buy. He picked out colors and little touches like a water bottle holder  that made who I was show in the bicycle. This bike took a lot of hard work, and a lot of time to complete, and every time I look at it I'm reminded how much I am loved.

Who knew that bicycles could say so much?
